3. If a four-year-old child asked you why the sky was blue, how would you respond?
I would explain refracted light and how the blue light-waves scatter more than red and are, therefore, more visible.
I would tell the child that when light hits tiny water diamonds in the sky, the light turns from the yellow of the sun into blue.
I would tell her that Hera loves blue, so when she decided to decorate the sky, she asked Zeus for paint made from lapis.
I would ask the child what color she would choose if she were creating the sky.
