I would take account of the weather conditions, time of night, phase of the moon, etc., and try to figure out how it worked.
I would be confused and amazed, but I would make a list of all of the theories it might prove--for instance, light waves and atoms.
That it was a sign that there are mystical things beyond our reckoning
