Hojo Clans
This is the name of two separate, powerful clans from Japan. One of them rose up during the 13th century, and ruled over Japan on behalf of the emperor. The other rose to power in the 16th century and marked the end of the era of independence by the warrior clans. Both marked important periods in Japanese history, and both were fearsome, capable clans.
Spartans
The only full-time army in all of ancient Greece, the Spartans were fearless warriors capable of handling seemingly every situation thrown at them. Thank their intense military training. These hardy soldiers started young, leaving it all behind to learn, become strong, and handle all types of turmoil. They were extreme though, kept in grueling conditions, with little food, and the inability to interact with normal people until they turned 30.
