Stacks and shelves of books and magazines can be easy stress relievers in addition to taking you to new worlds. When you want to be far away but time, day, and resources prohibit it, a library or bookstore can make it happen!
A coffee shop or cafe
Get out and around people! Have great conversations with friends or, if they can't be with you, with other patrons of the shop. Shy? Well, people watching and eavesdropping are still sort of social and you'll be out in a community instead of inside your own head. Plus - pastries and coffee or a tasty appetizer are a big bonus!
Park
Nature is calling you in some form or fashion. Maybe it's the animals or the birds or maybe the forest or the water. Whatever it is, get out in it! A return to nature can be restorative and relaxing. Parks can also be a lot of fun. Grab a friend and make for the playground. The swings and slides really can hold adults!
Amusement park
You need to have TONS of fun. Even a small town has some form of amusement park within an hours drive. Well, maybe not in Montana - but there's some touristy thing within reach, surely. Just think FUN FUN FUN. It doesn't matter if it's the world's largest rollercoaster or putt-putt golf. Grab a friend and go!
Zoo
If you're opposed to traditional zoos you could visit your local wildlife refuge or volunteer to help out with a wildlife rescue facility. The thing is to get out and see all of the creatures great and small that make this such a fascinating world to live in.
Movies
Indulge yourself in an all-out trip to the movie theater. Get the popcorn AND the candy and ALL of the snacks that you love. Sure it's expensive, but you're treating yourself! If it's still beyond the budget, there's always cargo pants . . .
