Hygge
If you haven't heard of hygge, you need to find out more about it. It's right up your alley. Hygge is a Danish concept that encapsulates a feel that can be described as cozy, charming, or special. A hygge home is ALL ABOUT COMFORT but in a very pleasing and charming aesthetic. So, there are blankets and soft places to sit almost everywhere, but they are the ultimate blankets - like faux fur, shearling, etc.
Farmhouse
Think of Farmhouse style as the younger sibling of Shabby Chic. There are still antiques and distressed decor but it's a little less feminine and there are far more color options than just pink and eggshell blue. Oh, and this isn't literally your country aunt's apple wallpaper with oak cabinets kitchen. Maybe there is a sliding barn door or a roughed up butcher's block. Exposed beams and shiplap might appear.
Natural
You want to be outdoors so why not bring the outdoors in? Natural design really is a thing. It has been since log cabins went from roughing it to charming and relaxing and when the 60s brought back a love of nature. But, it's evolved. Some designers are making furniture that keeps bark on wood or tops stools with stone. In natural design, even your fabrics are natural and/or organic.
Minimalist
If you want a less stressful, freer home environment, then minimalism is the way to go. It doesn't have to be done in contemporary style. You can choose elements of other design styles for the necessary furniture and storage that you'll need. Although, as a minimalist, you won't want too much storage!
Rustic
Rustic can cover a few different trends, but generally speaking, it's all about the exposed wood, stone fireplaces, and natural elements. Your version might be cozy log cabin or leather accented Western decor with a cowhide rug and a deer antler chandelier. Up to you!
Contemporary
It's all about the clean lines and modern design for you! With a neutral backdrop, both in furniture and in walls, you can put in pops of color with minimal accessories. You can also get away with a touch of whimsy here and there with a floating bookshelf or odd objets d'art.
