A Dime if You Say You Love Me
There are additional lines to the saying 'A penny for your thoughts. ' The full saying is 'A penny for your thoughts, a nickel for a kiss, and a dime if you say you love me. ' This doesn't have to be a romantic story. It could also be a story of rejection.
The Dragons Swept over the Lea
A lea is a great area of just grass. Like a prairie. The term is almost extinct, but being old-fashioned, it is perfect for the title of a dragon story. Maybe the dragons are literal and maybe they are figurative. Maybe it's a historical story about the grasshopper plagues of the 1870s.
The Generous Rat of Bayberry Lane
There are a lot of misnomers about rats. There have been studies that show that rats help each other, will work to save the life of a rat in distress, and will reward rats that have helped them in the past. Of course, this story doesn't have to be about an actual rat, it could be a person that's been referred to as a rat, but it would be interesting if it was a story about a rat.
Radio Date
You could set this story in any decade after the late 1920s. Maybe it's about a couple that can't afford to go on a real date so they sit in the car. Or maybe, they can't be seen in public together. Or, maybe it's about two strangers who communicate through a call in dedications radio show?
Vampire Table
Let your imagination run away with you. Or, if you need further inspiration - what if it's about a person who desperately wants to lose weight (or one who can't gain weight) who is constantly taunted by a side table that always has food on it. Maybe the food magics itself there, or maybe there is a person who appears to be well-meaning who fills it, or maybe that person knows their torturing the main character's psyche.
Kate's Return to Sleep
Kate Chopin released her book Awakening in 1899. If you don't already know, it was perceived as scandalous because it included themes of adultery and of a woman pursuing her own desires. Maybe this story would be a fanfic of the main character, or maybe the title is a nod to Chopin in a story about a dystopian future (or present) in which women/feminine people are regressing rather than progressing.
