Turn the person down gently.
And you were right to do so. If you'd hired that person, they would've made trouble for you. You have a fairly realistic world view and your head is squarely on your shoulders. Good work!
Politely but firmly refuse to hire the person.
You aren't interested in working with someone who doesn't want to work with you. Good move. This person would've cost you your job. Bad things can and do happen to good people. You always remain carefully aware of that.
Turn the person down and tell them exactly why in no uncertain terms!
Unfortunately, your candour backfires. The person complains to the CEO, who accuses you of holding grudges. You almost lose your job. But you explain yourself and you don't. You distrust that person even more now!
