Fisherman's sweater
These chunky cabled sweaters in natural wool colors - mostly beige or off-white - have been a classic since forever. They're not just for fishermen, though - they look great on women. Oh, and Robert Redford way back when. Get one on the cheap at the mall or make a real investment in one that's handknit in Ireland or Scotland! Wear it with jeans and boots and you'll look great while being comfy cozy.
Plaid skirt and puffy sleeves
Be classic AND on trend at the same time! Get the plaid skirt in a nice wool and your favorite tartan. The puffed sleeve shirt is huge this year and will look so glamorous no matter what hem length or cut of skirt you pair it with!
Corduroy
But not the stretch corduroy bootcut pants from 10 years ago. Corduroy this year is spanning out into mini skirts, maxi dresses, jumpers, and jumpsuits. They come in all of the colors of the 70s rainbow. Pair a jumper with a ribbed cream turtleneck and you're good to go!
Blazer and statement scarf
You can wear both of these with almost anything! Trends this year in blazers include everything from corduroy to leopard print. Or keep it classic in a neutral color and make your statement with the scarf. Go bold and then mix them up with your best pieces from last year!
Giant tunic and leather pants
So, the dress over leggings thing is still around but it has much more of an edge. Get that edge with a long flannel tunic and leather pants. Keep it to solid colors for that extra toughness or soften it up with a patterned tunic.
Animal print
Animal print is all the rage right now so don't be shy - get it in full-length pants, coats, dresses, or even on statement jeans with one leg animal print and the other stonewashed denim! This is not the time to limit animal print to accessories. Get in on this trend while it lasts!
