Pacific Coast Highway
Talk about a scenic cross-section of the United States! Running up the West Coast, the PCH takes you through sunny, southern California, by Hearst's San Simeon Castle, Big Sur, and the Winchester Mystery House, through the Redwoods, and up to San Francisco! Dine in Malibu and see famous vacationers, or get a cone on the Santa Barbara Pier. It's the perfect summer vacation.
Highway 90
This is the perfect nostalgic road trip for the person that wants a Route 66 type experience without all the crowds and with most things still in tact. Highway 90 follows Interstate 10 across the southern United States. It runs from far west Texas to Jacksonville Beach, Florida. It's a coastal highway with an ocean view for most of the drive. In Texas, you'll see the mysterious Marfa lights, the San Antonio River Walk, and the Johnson Space Center. You can get your slot machine game on in Louisiana or hit up New Orleans. Through Mississippi, one side of the road is flanked with stately ancient mansions and the other is blue, blue water and white sand beaches. You'll go through the South's best beaches in Alabama and Florida. The best thing about 90 is that it's mostly untouched and unspoiled. You'll love it.
Highway 281
This trip is for those that want a touch of solitude and wide open spaces. Larry McMurtry wrote an entire book dedicated to this one road alone. It's perfect for anyone interested in pioneers, ranches, cowboys, and wide open spaces!

For the traveler that wants to see a little of nearly everything, from big city skyscrapers to lazy Southern porches, US Route 1 from New York to Key West is the best bet. It hugs the coast most of the way, but reaches inland for side trips to historic destinations like Washington D.C. Of course, you could cheat and check out the other side of the Chesapeake Bay and drive the adventurous Bay Bridge Tunnel, but that's up to you!
The Oregon Trail
You want a little history, a little mystery, and some time away from modern life? Then the Oregon Trail is for you.
