Polson
Poised on the shore of Flathead Lake, Polson offers a view of sapphire water against snow-capped blue mountains. It has small-town charm and a cosmopolitan vibe with a Western twist. It's not only a nature sportsman's paradise; it's a paradise for lovers of other sports as well. Clay shooting, snowmobiling, indoor aquatics, gymnastics, golf, you name it--they've got it. If you'd rather not expend all that effort, then hit the blues or film festivals, or take a cruise on the water. You'll love this place.

Two Dot
At the edge of the Crazy Mountains sits a small collection of buildings, including the world-famous Two Dot Bar. About all you'll find there are the bar, a post office, and the ruins of a bank from long ago--and maybe Hank Williams Jr. Mostly you'll find an adventure in a place that will make you think the great Wild West hasn't completely disappeared.

Butte
If you long for variety and diversity in both food and culture, Butte's your new hometown. Settled during the Gold Rush by scores of immigrants from far-flung places around the globe, Butte remains influenced to this day by the customs they brought with them, from food to architecture to music and more.

Choteau
It's not quite IN the mountains, but it's known as the Front Porch of the Rockies--you can see them from town. What it's also known for are dinosaur bones and David Letterman--he mentioned the town in an incredibly touching monologue after the 9/11 attacks. According to Dave, some of the best folks in the US live here. You should too.

Livingston
If you've ever seen 'A River Runs Through It' and thought you should totally move to Montana, this is your target. The movie was filmed in this picturesque small town surrounded by mountains and the Yellowstone River. It is right by Yellowstone National Park. And it really is home to fly-fishing writers. Grab your fly-fishing gear and your journal, and get going!

Whitefish
This is pretty much all that needs to be said: you can ski by being pulled by a horse, like you're waterskiing. But if you need more info, Whitefish is a glorious winter wonderland bedecked with mountains and clear flowing streams. Located near Glacier National Park and the beach on Whitefish Lake, this town abounds with things to do in both winter and summer. Plus it's a gorgeous resort town with all you could ever need in dining, shopping, craft brews, and wine--and secret local spots too.
